The Electric Swan Ensemble invites you along an experimental journey deep into the uncanny valley. Cloaked in music and mythology we fearlessly enter the magical playing field between nature and technology. 12 lifelike swans, illuminated by an internal glow, dance and sing on the water. In this evening rendezvous they meet 5 musicians that accompany them from the waterside.
Inspired by Shakespeare’s Seven Ages of Man, CYCLUS CYGNUS is an hommage to the circle of life: Birth, Dance, Love, Violence, Harmony, Wisdom, and Death compose the Ronde through which the swans and their soundscapes lead us. The musicians Evelyn Saylor and Cherilyn MacNeil (Dear Reader) have composed an unconventional, experimental composition for the journey. The result is a ceremonial Gesamtkunstwerk between choreography and concert, between performance and installation.
The event will take place outdoors according to corona guidelines. Picnic blankets for the lawn aren’t a bad idea and depending on the weather you may also want to bring an umbrella. The bar of Strandbad Rahmersee will look after the drinks.
Das ELECTRIC SWAN ENSEMBLE lädt dich ein auf eine experimentelle Reise tief ins Uncanny Valley. Ausgestattet mit Musik und Mythos betreten wir furchtlos das magische Spielfeld zwischen Natur und Technik. 12 lebensechte Schwäne, von einem inneren Licht erhellt, tanzen und singen auf dem Wasser. Sie treffen bei diesem nächtlichen Rendezvous auf 5 Musiker, die sie vom Ufer aus begleiten.
Inspiriert von Shakespeare’s Seven Ages of Man ist CYCLUS CYGNUS eine Hommage an den Kreis des Lebens: Geburt, Tanz, Liebe, Gewalt, Harmonie, Weisheit und Tod bilden den Reigen durch den uns die Schwäne und ihre Klanglandschaften führen.
Die Musikerinnen Cherilyn MacNeil und Evelyn Saylor (DEAR READER) haben dafür eine eigenwillige, experimentelle Komposition geschaffen. Herausgekommen ist dabei ein zeremonielles Gesamtkunstwerk zwischen Choreographie und Konzert, zwischen Performance und Installation.
Die Veranstaltung findet, unter coronakonformen Bedingungen, im Freien statt. Liegedecken für die Wiese sind keine schlechte Idee und je nach Wetterlage müsst ihr evtl. auch Schirme denken. Die Bar des Strandbads Rahmersee sorgt für die Getränke.

The CYCLUS CYGNUS live performance by Cherilyn MacNeil and Evelyn Saylor has been reworked into a new installation of sound, movement, light, and color for the Festival of Lights Berlin. It can be experienced at the Piano-See at Potsdamer Platz daily from 20:00 – 24:00 for the duration of the Festival of Lights. The installation by Cherilyn MacNeil and Evelyn Saylor will be interleaved with pieces by John Gürtler and Graham DeZarn.
