A ‘Ruben Reniers / rubarb dance & art’ production
The philosopher Lucretius posited that things shape their visibility by separating fine layers, simulacra, which leave imprints on our retina. Objects thus only concretize their shape by merging with our vision and are therefore only perceived by us as a kind of copy. But is this copy actually identical to the original? And if so, isn’t actually all that we see only a copy? To what extent does our view, already manipulated by our environment and the people and media, manipulate the image? So if we can not believe our eyes anymore – maybe we can trace the authenticity of things with the periphery of our body. Can our intuition help to distinguish between appearance and reality, between what is and what we make off it? Are not we all a copy of our own original? At least in the eyes of the others?
