Electronics (fixed media)
Vel Piling Grimtra (Traveling Pilgrim Permutation)
for fixed media electronics (composed 2020, premiered 2023)
This piece is one of several pieces which I call “permutations”, in which I take a recording I’ve made and algorithmically reorder it. The “bits” slowly move through the file, giving rise to a slow change despite the quick tempo. This particular permutation reorders a recording of myself, Cherilyn Neilson, Graham DeZarn, and Marco Wessnigk singing the American shape note song “Traveling Pilgrim”. I composed this piece in 2020 and now dedicate it to Graham DeZarn who died two years later.
